Chile sees comeback in automobile sales, but will it last? – Global Fleet

Following a vehicles sales uptick of some 50% in 2021, Chile is still posting steady increases in new light-to-medium vehicle registrations in the first quarter of 2022, rising 34.8% year-over-year to 110,493 units, according to the country’s automotive association ANAC.
By vehicle type, while new passenger vehicle registrations only rose 6.6% to 28,864 units during the three-month period, SUV registrations increased 46.5% to 47,610 units and pickups jumped 62.5% to 20,823 units. As for commercial vehicles, the uptick in 1Q22 was 37.4% to 13,196 units.
Considering month-by-month performance, year-over-year increases are gradually weakening. While January reported a 49.2% increase (37,281 units), February rose 29.6% (31,745 units), and March rose 27.5% (41,467 units).
The top three best-selling vehicles in Chile in 2021 were Cherry Tiggo 2 (crossover), Mitsubishi L200 (pickup), and MG Zs (crossover).
